The challenge was to write exactly 100 words on a Christmas theme. This was my response:
Over the Christmas period he sent her a weird assortment of
presents, including people of varied social statuses, poultry, other types of
bird, pear trees and gold rings. At first the gifts were welcome, but the
novelty soon wore off. She felt she had no choice but to send the whole lot
back. The postage cost her a fortune, especially as the lords kept leaping out
of the boxes she put them in, as did the dancing ladies, and the pipers and
drummers were so noisy. That was why she decided to defray her expenses by
keeping the gold rings.
